WORDS FROM OUR FOUNDER
The story of DesignForce truly began when I was a child, driven by an innate curiosity to always understand the how behind everyday items. I spent my early days taking apart computers, clocks, cars, and toaster ovens; you name it, I have probably dissected it to find out how it works and how I could make it more efficient. So, mechanical engineering was a no-brainer when deciding on an academic and professional path.
What I soon found out as a recent Terrapin graduate hoping to apply the same calculated methodologies to my job search that I did during my undergraduate studies was that there appeared to be a true void in the availability of honest, sage, data-driven career resources and advice in the marketplace.
While many recruiters offered me "perfect" jobs, they never seemed to take the time to understand my career goals, my unique motivators, and who I ultimately was. My friends, families, and professors all offered advice, but ultimately their advice was limited to the parameters of their personal experiences and natural biases. I wondered if there was another way for me to make an impact on the engineering world without working as a practicing engineer.
This void in the marketplace, coupled with my innate desire to solve problems, led me to discover my ultimate why – I decided to dedicate my professional life to helping people not find jobs but build fulfilling, rewarding careers that motivate and inspire.
Decision made, I set out to learn everything I could about the recruiting industry and the inner workings of the built environment. I knew I needed diverse experiences to shape my approach. I sought various perspectives from hiring experts, professors and teachers, human resources professionals, workforce strategists, and life coaches. I dedicated my time to discovering the recruiting industry's best practices, and once I developed that foundation, I set out to refine the process.
Along the way, I found an incredible sense of fulfillment in helping people align their personal goals and values with those of employers in the A|E|C industry. The more I learned, the more I shifted the focus from studying the process to exploring the people. I analyzed the trends of what made career-minded professionals choose their employers. I saw where the voids in employee engagement and development occurred, and I began to see how the system as a whole could - and should - be better.
Then – it happened. I made the audacious decision to challenge the existing constructs of talent acquisition. I created DesignForce - a haven for career-minded individuals to turn to for sage, unbiased guidance and counsel. Almost two decades later, this commitment to people remains at the core of our business.
Once we realized how impactful our talent acquisition model was, we realized there was more we could give back to the A|E|C industry. The launch of our workforce strategy management consultancy ensured employers had the tools, processes, and systems to promote long-lasting relationships with their employees.
We hear from our clients and career professionals daily about how we have impacted their lives, their families, their companies, and their overall happiness. And that is what it is all about – helping people.
